"There's no doubt Robert Pereno has had a colourful story: the former Crazy Larrys club promoter sought pop stardom with both Shock and Pleasure & The Beast, married 80s "wild child" Emma Ridley, and, dined out on his foolish youth. His first solo album does its best to pretend the 80s never ended, and, in that pursuit, he's suitably aided by Logan Sky, keyboard player in the final incarnation of Steve Strange's Visage.

In fact, his contemporary is namechecked on Let Me In (Steve Strange) as Pereno begs for entrance to his club, semi-rapping the names of the era's other fames establishments against a backing reminiscent of recent experimental outings by Blancmange..

Sky's emphatic arrangements recall synth-pop's most vibrant days, especially on the theatrically gothic title track and the claustrophobic Mask." - Classic Pop, July '18

AFTERSHOCK... "fantastic title track! From all of the music here, this was the cut that came the closest to being the big fat hit single of this somewhat esoteric release. The arrangement was all stately synths of melancholic disposition. The deft music bed suggested that Depeche Mode of 1982 took a peek into next year and linked up with Some Bizzarre Cabaret Voltaire to hit some sort of sweet spot between the two approaches. I put this down to Mr. Sky’s laser-like focus on the last generation of analog synth tech before digital synthesis changed everything, but perhaps he’s simply brooded for years about creating the perfect fusion of “My Secret Garden” and “Just Fascination?” Either way, your ears are the winners." - Post Punk Monk, June '18

A Secret Wish is still an album I play to this day. It has never waned. I actually think it has got better with age. I'm not a fan generally of live recordings but this is one I love listening to. And Disziplin is on here too. Just as I remember it on The Tube. Who could ask for anything more? Just wish I would have been there but this is the next best thing. ❤ bazgray
